FORT FAIRFIELD

Fort Fairfield – Betty H. Jenkins, 89, loving, caring and giving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, went home to be with the Lord for Christmas on Wednesday evening November 30, 2016 at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born May 16, 1927 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Ellery and Hildred (Pelkey) Burtsell.

Betty was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1946 and was married to Earl G. Jenkins on August 27, 1948. She had been employed at Dexter Jenkins and Sons Car Dealership, Fort Fairfield, the Fort Fairfield Review, and the S.A.D. 20 school lunch program. She was a member of the Fort Fairfield Bethel Baptist Church and attended the Presque Isle Wesleyan Church.

In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband of forty-nine years, Earl G. Jenkins in 1998; one brother, Philip Burtsell. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Michelle Jenkins of Fort Fairfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Reggie Ward of Presque Isle; one sister-in-law, Eleanor Burtsell of Michigan; granddaughter, Amanda Knox and her husband George, grandson, Matthew Jenkins and his wife Lisa, all of Fort Fairfield, grandson, Dustin Ward and his wife Lauren of New Gloucester, granddaughters, Keisha Ward of Naugatuck, CT, and Kalie Ward of Bangor; great granddaughters, Arianna Jenkins, Maggie Knox and Charlette Knox; great grandson, Dominic Jenkins; nieces, Bonnie Burtsell Poehnert and her husband Dave of Ohio, Peggy Burtsell Dewley and her husband Guy of Michigan; and a very special friend Alice Durost of Fort Fairfield.

Friends may call Sunday, December 4, 2016 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. with Betty’s son Larry and Pastor Larry Palmer officiating. Spring interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Betty to the Kenna Cares Bags, P.O. Box 1515, Houlton, Maine 04730.
