Fort Fairfield – Sterling Hathaway, 80, husband of Carole (Yeomans) Hathaway, passed away Monday evening, November 7, 2016 at a Caribou healthcare facility, following a brief illness. He was born June 23, 1936 in Allagash to parents Edgar and Nellie (Walker) Hathaway.

At an early age, Sterling moved with his family to Fort Fairfield, living there most of his life except for a four year stint in the United States Navy, receiving his honorable discharge on September 10, 1961. He was employed in several industries, including, farming, garage work, carpentry work, but most of his career was spent with the former A&P later Interstate Foods, retiring at the age of 69. Sterling met and married Carole Yeomans in 1961 and had two children, Andrew and Maureen.

He was predeceased by his parents and one sister-in-law, Shirley Hathaway. He is survived by his wife Carole of Fort Fairfield; one son, Andrew Hathaway and his companion Dawn Blitz of Hamilton, Ohio and Fort Fairfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Luke Jadamec of Canaan; two brothers, Arnold Hathaway of Fort Fairfield and Georgia, Phil Hathaway and his wife Nancy of Houlton; one granddaughter, Rose of Canaan; nephew Robert Hathaway of Georgia; two nieces, Michele Hathaway and Melanie Stewart, both of Houlton; one aunt, Patsy Jandreau of Fort Kent; several cousins; one great nephew and one great niece.

Services will be conducted Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield with the Rev. Ellen Cleaves officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Hathaway to the American Heart Association / American Stroke Association, Founders Affiliate, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
