Fort Fairfield – JoAnn J. Massie, 69, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday evening, October 26, 2016 at her Fort Fairfield residence. She was born October 24, 1947 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Philip A. and Helen A. (Frost) Johnston.

She was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1965, attended Husson College, and had worked as a secretary in the law field for a number of years. JoAnn will be remembered as a witty, smart and sensitive lady who was very close to her mother and her grandchildren. She loved singing, music and her cat “Sassy”. Her personality and intellect made her a great asset while she worked for the law firm.

She was predeceased by her parents and is survived by her daughter, Michelle Massie Flannery and her companion Allan Hathaway of Fort Fairfield; one brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Paula Johnston of New Denmark, NB, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Philip Christensen of Fort Fairfield, Arletta and Lee Wilbur of Englewood, FL; three grandchildren, Justice Rae Flannery of Caribou, Michael Philip Flannery, Bryce Allan Hathaway, all of Fort Fairfield; one great grandchild, Emma Rae Flannery of Fort Fairfield; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday November 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield immediately following the service.
