Obituary for Evelyn S. Pickard (Schuster)

Evelyn S. Pickard (Schuster)
EVELYN SCHUSTER PICKARD
WELLFLEET, MA & FORT FAIRFIELD, ME

Wellfleet, MA & Fort Fairfield, ME - Evelyn Schuster Pickard, long time Wellfleet, MA resident, died October 1st, in Fort Fairfield, ME at the age of 91. Evelyn, the daughter of Leslie Oliver Schuster and Mildred Amelia Frazier, was born in Wellfleet on March 23, 1925.

Member of the four person class of 1943, Evelyn married the love of her life, Floyd D. Pickard, Jr., on January 20, 1950. The couple was married 51 years. Evie held many jobs during her lifetime: manager at The First National Store, helper at Lema’s Grocery, unofficial Champion Oyster Shucker at the Boat House Fishmarket and clerk at The Wellfleet Pharmacy. None, however, were more important than the job of Mother to her six children, whom she loved deeply and was immensely proud of. Evie, with her incredible belly laugh, was always light–hearted, kind souled and precisely on time with her grandchildren’s birthday cards. Along with her knack for silly gadgetry Christmas gifts, she could manage nearly a dozen bingo cards at once and whip unmanageable bedsheets into the most crisp hospital corners. While she dabbled in ceramics, she also enjoyed devouring the lastest edition of Woman’s World, watching her grandsons play hockey, holding her great grandchildren, chatting with her dear friend, Julie, listening to Country music, drinking tea and whistling along. She could be found most Thursday nights at Rookie’s Pizza, though not ordering a pizza topped with mushrooms. She was a true “Wellfleetian” with a deep love for the town, the ocean, beaches and it’s rhythm of life.

Evelyn is predeceased by her husband Floyd D. Pickard, Jr., four sisters: Marilyn Burgess, Shirley Smith, Janice Mello, Phyllis Schuster, and brother, Leslie Schuster.

She is survived by her six children: Arna McNamee and Lana McNamee of Fort Fairfield, ME; Denise Patterson of Eastham, MA; Gina Sturtevant, Floyd Pickard, III; and Lloyd Pickard all of Wellfleet, MA, as well as 19 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
