Fort Fairfield & Caribou – Rita B. McMahan, 83, wife of the late Robert F. McMahan, passed away Thursday morning, September 1, 2016 at her Fort Fairfield residence, following a brief illness. She was born February 28, 1933 in Hanover, MA, the daughter of Gunnar and Myrtle (Frasier) Djerf.

She was a graduate of the Quincy, MA School System and was married to Robert F. McMahan on February 17, 1952. Rita was a talented, accomplished artist who’s works were displayed at both the Caribou City office and Cary Medical Center. Rita made her home in Caribou from 1970 to 2013 and had been a resident of Fort Fairfield for the past three years.

In addition to her parents, Rita was predeceased by her husband Robert on March 27, 2000. She is survived by two daughters, Rita Marie Evans and her companion Al Theriault of Caribou, Sharon Sneddon and her companion Peter Lennon of Fort Fairfield; three grandchildren, Sherrie Evans, Sarah Love and her husband Justin, all of Caribou, Jamie Sneddon of Boston, MA; six great grandchildren, Naliyah, Nikko, Noah and Nella Love, Matthew and Dustin Sneddon, all of Caribou. She also leaves behind a very special friend, Larry Nostangelo of Hull, MA; and her wonderful friend Tom Lowell of Chapman.

In keeping with Rita’s wishes, services will be private. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in Rita’s memory to the American Diabetes Association, National Processing Center, P.O. Box 13067, Alexandria, VA 22312.
