FORT FAIRFIELD

Fort Fairfield – Galen H. Helstrom, 65, passed away on July 24, 2016 at a Bangor hospital following a brief illness. He was born September 9, 1950 in Caribou, the son of Edward M. and Elouise F. (Giggey) Helstrom.

Galen was a life long resident of Fort Fairfield, where he graduated from the Fort Fairfield High School in the Class of 1969, he was a communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield and was married to Marilyn M. Bubar on October 26, 1974. He farmed for 10 years and for the past twenty years he was employed with Kilcollins Farms, both in Fort Fairfield, and he served country honorably in the United States Army. Galen was a hard working man and a loving husband, father and friend. He loved to hunt, fish and spend time with his family, especially his grandson Gage, who was his pride and joy. His sense of humor always put a smile on your face and he was always more concerned with doing for others above himself.

In addition to his parents, Galen was predeceased by one brother, Gregory Helstrom; one sister, Gail Wortman, and one nephew, Kevin Helstrom.

Galen is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marilyn M. Helstrom; two sons, Andrew Helstrom and Benjamin Helstrom; one grandson, Gage Helstrom, all of Fort Fairfield; two brothers and sister-in-law, Gary Helstrom, Gene and Patti Helstrom; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Fred and Barb Bubar, Tom and Roxanne Bubar, Clifford and Angela Bubar, Edith Helstrom, Connie Jarvais, all of Fort Fairfield; numerous special nieces and nephews; special friends, Charlie and Susan Russell and family.

Friends may call Wednesday July 27, 2016 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main Street, Fort Fairfield with Fr. Jean-Paul Labrie celebrant. Interment will take place at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield.
