LECANTO, FL & FORT FAIRFIELD

Lecanto, FL & Fort Fairfield – Omar S. Adams, Sr., 91, husband of Joyce (Deschesne) Adams, passed away Saturday April 9, 2016 at Brentwood Assisted Living in Lecanto, FL, following a period of declining health. He was born November 22, 1924 in Blue Bell, New Brunswick, the son of Dudley O “Dud” and Nina (Barclay) Adams.

He attended school in Blue Bell, NB and was married to Joyce Deschesne on Christmas Day 1947. He farmed on the Dorsey Road in Fort Fairfield during the 1950’s and attended the Bethel Baptist Church. He and Joyce made their home in East Hartford, Connecticut from 1962 to 1989 where Omar worked for the Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Co., retiring to Beverly Hills, FL where they lived until October of 2014 at which time they moved to Lecanto, FL. He had been a devoted member of the Heritage Baptist Church in Beverly Hill, FL and had been active in the several churches he attended during his lifetime.

In addition to his parents, Omar was predeceased by one son, Benjamin A. Adams in 1955; and by all 12 of his siblings.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joyce of Lecanto, FL; four sons and daughters-in-law, John “Jack” and Heather Adams of Alexandria, NJ, Christopher D. and Cathy-Ann Adams of Brattleboro, VT, Eric W. and Amy Adams of Boise, ID, Omar S. Jr. and Lois Adams of Springfield, MA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and John Armstrong of Cocoa, FL, Lori Jane and Rev. Kim Fox of Lebanon, PA; twenty-three grandchildren; several great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Friday May 20, 2016 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Kim Fox officiating. Interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Adams to the Heritage Baptist Church, P.O. Box 640032, Beverly Hills, FL 34464-0032. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
