Fort Fairfield – Laura M. Browning, 93, wife of the late Vaughn E. Browning, passed away Tuesday morning April 5, 2016 at a Caribou nursing facility, following an extended illness. She was born September 10, 1922 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Charles and Annie (Nadeau) Cyr.

Laura had been a communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield, and had been employed by the Fort Fairfield Community General Hospital in their housekeeping department for a number of years. Laura loved to hunt, fish and camp with her husband Vaughn and was a past winner of the Maine Moose Hunt Permit Drawing. She loved to knit and crochet, especially afghans. She enjoyed playing cards and board games, cooking, baking, watching soap operas and old movies, and entertaining friends.

Laura’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Caribou Nursing Home and Rehab Center for the outstanding care, support and compassion given to Laura and her family during her stay.

In addition to her parents, Laura was predeceased by her husband Vaughn on September 18, 2002; three brothers, Arthur, Robert and Richard Cyr; one sister, Clara Jackson. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Theresa Cyr of Fort Fairfield; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, including a special great nephew, Ken Clark and his wife Mary Jane of Fort Fairfield; several great great and great great great nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Friday, April 8, 2016 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Alex Maria Doss officiating. Interment will take place later in the spring at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. Browning to the Caribou Nursing Home Activities Fund, 10 Bernadette Street, Caribou, Maine 04736. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
