WELMAN B. PRYOR
FORT FAIRFIELD & PRESQUE ISLE

Fort Fairfield & Presque Isle – Welman B. Pryor, 89, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2015 at a Presque Isle healthcare facility. He was born January 1, 1926 in Presque Isle, the son of Lewis and Ilda (Crandall) Pryor.

He was a graduate of the Presque Isle High School and worked on the family potato farm in his youth. In 1951, he took the family to New Jersey so he could work on the construction of the New Jersey Turnpike for 5 or 6 years. He also was employed at Fenwick Construction until moving to Portage Lake in the early 1970’s, operating his own construction company and also provided Bush Pilot Services out of Portage Lake. He flew fire patrol for the State and also flew sportsman into many of the lodges and sporting camps located on the numerous lakes in the North Woods, Welman loved being a pilot! He often said that “flying took him to another world”. While residing in Fort Fairfield, Welman became employed as a heavy equipment operator with McGillan Inc.. His unique sense of humor and fair play made people remember him fondly. He was what was called a “character”. Welman was especially fond of the outdoors and loved fishing and sailing in his younger years in New Jersey.

In addition to his parents, Welman was predeceased by three brothers, Lewis Pryor Jr., Horace Pryor and Kyle Pryor; one sister, Leona (Pryor) Spillian.

He is survived by Pam Pryor of Fort Fairfield; one son, Boyd Pryor of Eagle Lake; one daughter, Lucy (Pryor) Hutchinson of Portage Lake; one sister, Elizabeth (Pryor) Stoddard of South Windsor, CT; three grandchildren, Cortney Pryor of New York City, NY, Jason Harvey of Yukon, OK, Buxton Pryor of Highland Mills, NY; one great grandson, Chase Pryor of Florida; numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted Friday, September 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Pryor to Angel Flight of Northeast, Lawrence Municipal Airport, 492 Sutton Street, North Andover, MA 01845. Envelopes will be available at the service.
