FORT FAIRFIELD

Fort Fairfield – Burnice E. Edgecomb, Jr., 91, husband of Betty A. (Mortensen) Edgecomb, passed away Monday evening, April 27, 2015 at a Presque Isle nursing facility, following an extended illness. He was born August 19, 1923 in Limestone, the son of Burnice E. Sr. and Jenny (Burtchell) Edgecomb.

As a child, Burnice became a resident of Mars Hill where he graduated from high school in 1942. He was married to Betty Mortensen on April 24, 1948 and had been a potato farmer in Fort Fairfield for fifty years. He was a member of the Limestone Masonic Lodge No. 214 AF & AM, the Anah Temple Shrine, the Aroostook Shrine Club, the Fort Fairfield Snowmobile Club, Fort Fairfield Fish and Game Club, and the Fort Fairfield Rifle and Pistol Club.

In addition to his parents, Burnice was predeceased by two sisters, Frances Lake and Stella Anderson. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Edgecomb of Presque Isle; two sons and daughters-in-law, David Sr. and Rose Edgecomb, Michael and Karen Edgecomb, all of Fort Fairfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Ronald Sites of Mapleton; one sister and brother-in-law, Gertrude and Ronald Boyd of Orono;10 grandchildren and spouses, Adam and Angela Rider of Mapleton, David Jr. “Jay” and Kelly Edgecomb of Burlington, KS, Stephen and Sheryl Edgecomb of Hancock, Daniel and Alyson Adams of Limestone, Brian Edgecomb of Presque Isle, Keith Edgecomb and Michael Edgecomb, both of Fort Fairfield, Jennifer Bennett and Michael Bennett, both of Hampden, Angela Sites Georgiev and Ev of Laconia, NH; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

There will be no public calling hours. A graveside service will be conducted Monday, May 11, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield with Rev. Lawrence Beals officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the service at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Edgecomb to the Shrine’s Hospital for Children – Boston, Attention: Development, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114.
