EASTON & FORT FAIRFIELD
Easton & Fort Fairfield – Albert L. “Pomp” Sawyer, 71, husband of Janet Boulier (Hewitt) Sawyer, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, January 18, 2015 at his Easton home. He was born June 10, 1943 in Clearview, Carlton County, New Brunswick, the son of Mary Ann Sawyer.
He attended school in Perth-Andover, New Brunswick and at the age of twelve Pomp began working in the logging industry, hauling logs with horses. After moving to the U.S., Pomp became employed by several area farmers including Don DeMerchant, Fort Fairfield for a number of years and Nightingale Enterprises, Fort Fairfield as a supervisor for many years. He most recently worked for Dave Adams (D.A.S.K.O.) Easton, in their farm operations. Pomp loved to hunt and fish and was an experienced outdoorsman. He recently discovered the joy of vegetable and flower gardening, also loved to pick strawberries, and greatly enjoyed animals, especially his two dogs which he recently lost. He was a hard worker, always staying busy and never hesitated to help others in need. His likeable personality will be remembered by his many friends and family far and wide. He was married to Janet Boulier (Hewitt) on August 20, 1994.
In addition to his mother, Pomp was predeceased by both sons, Leroy A. Sawyer on February 24, 1990 and Larry A. Sawyer on April 29, 2013; one brother, Mark Sawyer; one son-in-law, Sean Stillings. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Janet Sawyer of Easton, one daughter, Lori A. Stillings of San Antonio, Texas; a stepson, Jason Hewitt of Windham; 5 grandchildren; 1 step-grandson; several nieces and nephews, and extended family members.
Friends may call Wednesday, January 21, 2015 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A graveside service will be conducted later in the spring at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Sawyer to the Central Aroostook Humane Society, 26 Cross Street, Presque Isle, Maine 04769.
