Obituary for Barbara J. Shaw (Bubar)



BARBARA J. (BUBAR) SHAW
FORT FAIRFIELD


Fort Fairfield – Barbara J. (Bubar) Shaw, 82, wife of Wendall W. Shaw, passed away Monday morning, August 18, 2014 at a Presque Isle healthcare facility, following an extended illness. She was born October 11, 1931 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Arthur E. and Helen M. (Lovely-Ames) Bubar.

Barbara was a lifelong resident of Fort Fairfield where she attended local schools, and was a graduate of the Presque Isle High School Adult Education Class of 1970. She was married to Wendall W. Shaw on November 4, 1948 and was a lifelong member of the Fort Fairfield United Parish Church. Barbara was a forty-four year member of the former Good Will Chapter #85 Order of the Eastern Star, Fort Fairfield where she held many offices and served as Worthy Matron in 1961 and 1974, and was Chapter Secretary for 21 years. She was a member, past president, and secretary for many years of the Past Matrons Club. She later affiliated with the Lunar Chapter #126 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Presque Isle. Barbara also held the following appointments from the Grand Chapter of the Maine Order of the Eastern Star; District Deputy Grand Matron of District #19 in 1962-1963, Grand Warden in 1979, Grand Representative of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island in 1988-1990. She was an honorary member of the Maine Order of the Eastern Star Secretaries Association, a member of the Past Appointive Grand Officers Association, also was a member of the Grand Representatives Association both Maine and Internationally. Barb was a member and past president of the United Parish Women’s Club, was also a member and past president of each of the following chapters of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority of Fort Fairfield; the former Phi Chapter, the former Xi Xi Chapter, and also the Preceptor Gamma Chapter and Laureate Gamma Chapter. She was instrumental in reforming the Preceptor Gamma Chapter and forming the Laureate Gamma Chapter. She received her life membership from the International Organization of Beta Sigma Phi in 1988. For several years Barb made decorated cakes and was always cooking and baking “goodies” for the organizations that she and Wendall belonged to. Her children were especially fond of her woopie pies, bread and donuts. Her loving arms and gentle guidance will be missed by all of them.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by three sisters, Priscilla Damon, Phyllis McKinley and Joan Hawkins. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Wendall W. Shaw of Fort Fairfield; two daughters, Linda J. Shaw of Fort Fairfield, Nancy H. Perry and her husband Randy of Winter Springs, FL; one son, Arthur B. Shaw and his wife Judy of Spring Hill, FL; nine grandchildren, Anjanette Walsh of Caribou, Wendall Roy of Minneapolis, MN, Bruce and Ryan Houghton, Sophia Gribizis, all of Portland, Adam and Michael Shaw, both of Ellsworth, Danielle Orser of Caribou, Jared Shaw of Fort Fairfield; 5 great grandchildren, Patricia and Courtney Walsh, both of Caribou, Rayven Risinger of Caribou, Kaiden and Annistyn Shaw of Ellsworth. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews as well as a sister-in-law, Polly Shaw of Bath and a brother-in-law, Ernest Shaw of Sun City West, AZ.

Friends may call Friday August 22, 2014 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield where a memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. by the officers of the Lunar Chapter #126 Order of the Eastern Star, Presque Isle. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday August 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Mary Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment service at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post #6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. Shaw to the United Parish Church Memorial Fund, c/o Jane Hunt, 15 Fisher Street, Fort Fairfield, Maine 04742.
