Fort Fairfield – Charles Reed Fowler, 84, husband of Dawna (Wight) Fowler, passed away peacefully Saturday morning April 5, 2014 at a Mars Hill nursing facility. He was born March 10, 1930 in Fort Fairfield, the son of Charles M. and Elizabeth (Reed) Fowler. Charles attended Fort Fairfield schools, was a graduate of Kents Hill School and attended Nichols College. He was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served for two years, of which fourteen months were spent in Korea during the Korean War, serving as a Corporal in the 23rd Infantry Division and received a Commendation Ribbon and Bronze Star for his service. Charles had a lifelong career in the potato industry as a potato broker in Aroostook County, and developed business relationships with many potato farmers along the Eastern Seaboard States including Delaware, Maryland and North Carolina. He was a member of the United Parish Church, Fort Fairfield, the Fort Fairfield VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, a member of the former Fort Fairfield Frontier Masonic Lodge, and currently affiliated with the Trinity Masonic Lodge Number 130 AF & AM, Presque Isle. He enjoyed many years as a lifelong golfer and member of the Aroostook Valley Country Club and played many summers with the St. John Seniors. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one daughter Sara Fowler; one sister Helen Titcomb. He is survived by his wife Dawna W. Fowler of Fort Fairfield; one daughter Mary Fowler of South Portland; several nieces and nephews. In keeping with Mr. Fowler’s wishes, a graveside service with Masonic burial rites and full military honors will be conducted at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield at a future date and time to be announced in the Bangor Daily News. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Charles to Hospice of Aroostook, 14 Access Highway, Caribou, Maine 04736.
